Cantina Claudio Mariotto has its roots in a family history that began in 1921, when the great-grandfather, Bepi Mariotto, established the agricultural estate. The legacy was then passed on to grandfather Salvatore Mariotto, later to father Oreste Mariotto, and today to Claudio Mariotto, the modern guardian and interpreter of this long winemaking tradition. The estate covers 54 hectares of vineyards located between Vho and Sarezzano, at elevations ranging from 250 to 300 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Colli Tortonesi. This unique territory benefits from a particularly favorable microclimate: the protection of the Apennines, the openness toward the Po Valley, and the moderating influence of the sea — just 60 kilometers away as the crow flies — create ideal conditions for balanced viticulture. Claudio Mariotto’s production philosophy is based on what he defines as “common-sense agriculture”: no chemical pesticides, minimal and respectful intervention, and careful pruning and canopy management aimed at preserving the health and natural balance of the vines. An approach centered on daily observation of the vineyard and a deep respect for the land. In the early 1990s, Claudio Mariotto made a bold and visionary decision. Together with only a handful of local winemakers, he chose to believe in a native grape variety that had almost been forgotten at the time: Timorasso. From this intuition came a new destiny for the territory: the creation of a great age-worthy white wine from Piedmont, capable of competing with the finest Italian white wines. It was precisely from this daily relationship with the vineyard that the decision emerged to bottle the estate’s own wines directly, giving full value to the work carried out in the fields and offering authentic wines deeply connected to their origin. Today, Cantina Claudio Mariotto is recognized as one of the leading references for Timorasso, a symbol of viticulture built on tradition, vision, respect, and territorial identity.
